Worship Song of 2011 – The results are in!
Posted in Church on January 8, 2012
Thank you to everyone who voted for their favourite song of the last year, nearly 60 of you voted which is a fantastic response!
So, without further ado, let’s get down to the results:
In first place, with 28% of the vote, and the winner by quite some way…
Never Once by Matt Redman.
A fantastic song that really seems to have connected well in church, singing about God’s faithfulness is a really good way to connect with God, and judging by your votes you seem to agree!
This song is from Matt Redman’s album, 10,000 Reasons, if you like this one then do yourself a favour and pick up the album, it’s without a doubt one of my favourite albums of the year.
In second place in the poll, and deserving of an honourable mention, is Furious by Brian Johnson & Jeremy Riddle (17%), another fantastic song and probably my personal favourite I think.
These two songs were a long way clear of all the others in the voting, but it was nice to see that every single song managed at least one vote. Somehow even the Red Hot Chilli Peppers managed a vote! (thank you Mr Jeffrey Gill for that one!)

What was your favourite worship song of the last year?
It would be really useful to hear which songs you really liked from the last 12 months, it will help shape our song choices for the coming year, so this is your chance to have a say in what we sing! If you have a few favourites please feel free to vote for all of them, you can only vote for one at a time, but you can reload the page and vote as many times as you like!
If you’re not sure what the songs sound like then check my earlier posts for links to hear them, or do a quick Google search.
Thank you for taking the time to vote!
(Maybe I’ll follow this up with a poll of which songs you most like to see us kill off, what have you sung so much you could quite happily never hear it again! Ha!)

Kicking off a new year with 5 baptisms, what could be better!?!
Baptisms are my favourite meetings, as Cari so eloquently put it – new year, new life!
Our setlist was as follows:
Saviour of the World – Ben Cantelon
Be Glorified – ALM:uk
Give Me Faith – Elevation Worship
Our God – Chris Tomlin
10,000 Reasons – Matt Redman
We Are The Free – Matt Redman
This set was nice and simple, Kristian and I both played acoustic guitar and Sarah sang with us. Despite some lingering Christmas sore throats it went pretty well I think and was definitely the perfect start to 2012.
We’ve got a new song lined up for Sunday, if you want to have a sneak peak check it out below…

This week’s songs were:
Holding Nothing Back – Jesus Culture Version
Furious – Jeremy Riddle
Forever Reign – Hillsong
How He Loves – John Mark McMillan
10,000 Reasons – Matt Redman
Go – Hillsong United
We also had a food fight on stage during the message this week, that has to be a first!
This week I’ve been listening quite a lot to the new album from Elevation Worship called For The Honor (even if they do spell honour wrong!). But it seems to have disappeared from the UK iTunes store, so I’ll make do with posting their new version of Give Me Faith below:
EDIT: Found it on Amazon! Go get it here.

Oops, a little late with this one…
Songs this week were:
Sound of Praise by ALM:uk
We Are The Free by Matt Redman
10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman
First Love by ALM:uk
Everything by Tim Hughes
Jesus Saves by Tim Hughes
We used another in house loop this week for 10,000 Reasons, the title track from Matt Redman’s latest album, a lovely, almost hymn-like song, that I think will become a firm favourite.

Last Sunday was a rare Sunday off for me, so it was great to worship off stage for a change!
The songs we sang were:
Blessed Be Your Name (Viva la Vida mix) – Matt Redman
Sing Sing Sing – Chris Tomlin
You Alone Can Rescue – Matt Redman
All Glory – Nikki Fletcher / Tim Hughes
Give Me Faith – Elevation Worship
Our God – Chris Tomlin
We are using our first in-house produced loop for All Glory (made by Kristian). It’s really good, even if I do say so myself! (I can say that because I didn’t make it), if you want to give it a try it’s available here.
I also really enjoyed our Viva la Blessed which is a remix of Blessed Be Your Name to the tune of Viva la Vida by Coldplay. It works really well!

Our setlist this week was:
Forever Reign – Hillsong
One Thing Remains – Bethel Live
Hallelujah – Ben Cantelon
Search My Heart – Hillsong United
Grace Like Rain – Todd Agnew
Never Once – Matt Redman
We Are The Free – Matt Redman
We structured our worship slightly differently this week to accommodate the 2 minute silence for Remembrance Sunday. The Sunday after Reconnect is typically a stretching one from a technical point of view, but this week, despite our sound tech being ill, we handled everything really well and the team did a fantastic job! It was a lot of fun to be a part of.
This week I’ve been listening to 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman a lot, it’s a fantastic album, the last 2 songs on this week’s list are taken from it, go buy it!

A bit late this week, but the songs we sang last Sunday were:
We Are The Free – Matt Redman
Saviour of the World – Ben Cantelton
Furious – Jeremy Riddle & Brian Johnson
Give Me Faith – Elevation Worship
All Glory – Nikki Fletcher
Go – Hillsong United
I’m really liking the version of Furious from Jeremy Riddle’s album at the moment, it’s the song I play on repeat on my way home from Alpha every Thursday. So powerful! In fact, that’s definitely been my album of the week so do yourself a favour and go get it here.

This weekend we didn’t have access to John Brights school hall, so church moved back to it’s roots at Bryn Morfa, also known as i61 Conwy. Because of this, and also the fact Kristian, Sarah and I were at the Worship Central conference all weekend and only got back in the small hours of Sunday morning, we decided to mix things up a bit and go for a simple acoustic worship set with just a couple of acoustic guitars.
The setlist was:
You Alone Can Rescue – Matt Redman
Be Glorified – ALM:uk
How He Loves – John Mark McMillan
Beautiful One – Tim Hughes
Our God – Chris Tomlin
How Great is our God – Chris Tomlin
It was also a baptism meeting, which I love!
What did you sing this week?

Our setlist this week, with links…
We Are the Free – Matt Redman
Our God – Chris Tomlin
Glory To God Forever – Steve Fee & Vicky Beeching (or Vicky’s version here)
My God Reigns – ALM:uk
The Anthem – Planetshakers
We Are The Free – Matt Redman
Check them out, buy them if you like them!
We started and finished with a new song this week, We Are The Free, taken from Matt Redman’s new album 10,000 Reasons. It’s a very powerful, anthemic song and people were humming the hook all through teardown after the meeting, so I think that’s a good sign it was well received!
What songs are you listening to right now?
